Qikou (¿l¤f)

Our delayed departure from Zuitou meant that we didn't have as much time to stop and check out other locations on the way to Luuliang, where we needed to catch a bus to Taiyuan to get an overnight train to Xuzhou (where we already had an appointment for the following morning).

Just 15 km south of Zuitou is Qikou, an important Qing dynasty merchant town on the Yellow River, which definitely deserved at least a few minutes. We couldn't explore any alleys and such, but just driving along the waterfront provided some interesting views of old architecture.

Beyond Qikou, inland from the Yellow River and on our way to Luuliang, we passed by crews constructing fish-scale pits of dirt for trees.

The pits stretch all the way to the peak of this mountain.
