

Kinmen has a lot of coast, though admittedly much of it doesn't look all that friendly.


And some of it doesn't just look unfriendly...


But there is hope!


There are also millions of tiny crabs digging holes in the beaches (secret weapon to thwart a Chinese invasion?).


Kinmen's coasts are still somewhat fortified, though nothing like in past decades as a majority of defenses have been removed. (They're actually currently in the process of removing minefields.)

In this picture, you can see Xiamen's skyline in the distance, and also one of the buoys demarking the line between Taiwan and China-controlled waters.

Oysters are another local specialty. Here are some oyster farmers collecting their harvest at low tide.
