Here are a few random pictures to show you a little more of Kinmen.
As the dragon boat festival was approaching, on several occasions that week I came across boats pulled out of storage or teams catching up on their rowing.

One evening we met up with an experienced Kinmenite who lead a 2-hour walking tour of the main town, showing us a good 20 sites and telling stories about each. This is the old Jincheng Yamen:

The old Gugang Building is situated in a nice park on a pond, and even includes "man reading book" as a seemingly permanent fixture; he just stood there, virtually unmoving, as he reads his book (we were walking around for a good 20 minutes, and all he managed to do in that period was turn around to face the opposite direction). Must've been a good book.

This massive character for "Buddha" can be seen on Mt. Taiwu, which we hiked up one morning.

Great tiger's claw tree.
