

Wandering around the Shuitou area, some older homes were obviously still occupied...

...and others were decidedly not.

Some look little different from when they were bombarded into uninhabitability (collapsed roof, etc.), aside from having been overgrown by several decades of vegetation.



In a display of resourceful architecture, some walls utilize stacked pieces of broken roof tile. As for why they had so many broken roof tiles lying around, I'm sure you can figure that out.

Another random shot from Shuitou on the one day there was a tiny bit of rain.
This other village on the northeast part of Kinmen is arranged in a grid pattern, and mostly still occupied.


Most villages include an ancestral hall. In this one here you can see spirit tablets for Qing-era relatives:
